    Am I inviting Corona Virus if I order food at home?

    A small virus, barely 400 microns in size has put the entire world on pause! Today, the super happening places are deserted. The reality of the times seems to come straight out of a scene of a Hollywood apocalyptic movie. The lifestyle of human beings on earth has changed completely. 

    It is the tale of the times, where food ordering apps like Swiggy and Zomato are the hot favorite. The phone numbers of Mc.D, Pizza Hut or the nearby restaurants are on the speed dial. From snacking to dinner; we have become dependent on ‘bahar ka khana’. Whether there is a guest at the house or a sudden treat thrown by a colleague who has just bought the latest iPhone model; we are hugely dependent on those food delivery apps.

    This happy movie all of a sudden has taken a drastic turn and we have to sacrifice many of the habits. While we have to stay at home as much as possible to break the chain of deadly coronavirus, a bag of confusion is roaming all around.

    Questions like: whether it is safe to order food from outside, how can I order food from outside are pouring up on the Internet. When we are scared to take a step outside our home, how safe it is to take food delivery from outside.

    Here we will discuss all the aspects so that you will have a clear idea about the do’s and don’ts of food ordering amidst the coronavirus crisis.

    What do we know about coronavirus?

    Perhaps, there is no one left in India who doesn’t know about this deadly virus. Till now, it has been proven that Coronavirus is not airborne. The virus transmits through droplets. If an infected person sneezes or coughs and the droplets fall on a surface, and that surface in turn is touched by a person who touches his face, mouth, nose or eyes, the virus will enter the body and can cause Covid-19.    

    How Coronavirus can affect food delivery?

    So far, the researchers have found that Coronavirus cannot sustain in extreme heat. This means that there are no chances of transmission from cooked food. However, the risk remains with the container and cardboard box where the virus can stay active for a few hours to 3 days. That’s why; the fear of transmission is always there in food delivery. So, the cooked food can be considered safe but not the packaging?

    What should we do while ordering food from outside?

    It is advisable to avoid food ordering unless it is an absolute necessity. In case, you have to order it, then you have to follow the below-stated guidelines.

    • Don’t let the packaging enter your house. Take a clean bowl outside of the house and pour the food directly on it. Then immediately discard the container in a closed dustbin.
    • After getting the food, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. Never touch your face until the washing your hand efficiently.
    • Avoid cash payment as it can be another medium for virus transmission. Use the digital payment sources so that there is no problem with the change.
    • Before placing an order, please make sure the restaurant is following all the guidelines for Covid-19 like the using masks, maintaining social distancing, etc.
